Maina Sahi leads Strategy for Health and Education across Africa and South Asia for CDC Group - the UK government's Development Finance Institute. 10% of CDC Group's portfolio i.e. ~0.5Bn is in Health & Education, across equity, debt, fund-of-funds, subsidiaries and capital partnerships.
Previously Maina was a Principal with BCG India's Social Impact and Public Sector Practice wherein amongst many projects, she led a state-wide public-school system transformation project in Rajasthan, India, impacting over 10K schools and 5M children.
Prior to this she co-led Parthenon's Emerging Markets' Social & Public Sector practice. Initiating this practice in 2012, in less than one-year she helped build a $1.5M practice and a client portfolio that included MSDF, Abu Dhabi Education Council, IFC and Qatar Foundation, among others.
Maina's experience spans government policy reform; public school system transformation; scaling grassroots innovation; social innovation evaluation; and product/process development, dissemination & international expansion. Additionally, she has experience in private equity due diligence (~$0.5B in collective deal size), global expansion strategy & new business development in the Education, Energy, Healthcare, Consumer, Financial Services & Industrial sectors. Maina has led projects in over 40+ countries with on-ground experience in the emerging markets of APAC, MENA & LATAM.
Prior to her MBA, Maina led research for Egon Zehnder's Financial Services & Board Consulting Practice in India and built firm capabilities in new sectors such as: Financial Service Outsourcing, Equity Brokerage, Insurance & Retail Banking; and Board Consulting. Previously, she managed business analytics & information systems for Thomas Cook's foreign exchange business in India, Mauritius & Sri Lanka and provided strategic analytical support to the business head. In her younger years, Maina interned with Ashoka, ICICI Bank and an education dot-com start-up.
Maina is an MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business with an Econometrics undergrad from the University of Mumbai. She is an investor in two social enterprises and also a Board Member, Chicago Booth Alumni Club of the UK.
